Complex is back with their first issue of their 10th year in the game. I can’t believe it’s been 10 years since the magazine came out. I can’t wait for the 10th anniversary issue, in the meantime we have two musicians I feel we’ll be hearing about a lot in 2012. Rapper A$AP Rocky joins designer Jeremy Scott on one side while rising pop star Lana Del Rey is on the flipside. I’m a fan of both A$AP Rocky and Jeremy Scott, I’ll be going to A$AP’s show in Toronto on Friday and I recently bought a pair of Jeremy’s Adidas. As for Lana I’m not familiar with her music at all, I think sometime on YouTube will change that. The issue hits newsstands on February 7th but you can read the cover stories now. I added the links below each cover.

SPOTLIGHT WEDNESDAY – N.E.R.D

Way back when Much Music used to play music videos they used to have a show called Spotlight where they would dedicate a half hour to a particular artist and spotlight their music and show various interviews. It was one of my favorite shows on much, it opened me up to so much music. Well I decided to re-name Wednesday video round-up to Spotlight Wednesday. The first artist I decided to profile one of my all time faves N*E*R*D. I have all their albums including two copies of In Search Of all signed by Pharrell. Here are all of the bands videos. FASHION FILES: DELUXE SPRING/SUMMER “RUM AND SUGAR”

I did a post about Japanese clothing brand Deluxe last year, for their fall/winter collection. I loved all of their pieces from that collection. Their new spring/summer 2012 collection entitled “Rum and Sugar” is a another great run. I like the colours they chose for their pieces, I’m not a fan of the tote or the ankle length pants but everything else is good. Unfortunatley we can’tget Deluxe in Toronto but you can find it all over the world or purchase it via their online store.

GOT IT COVERED: XXL MARCH 2012 – THE NOTORIOUS B.I.G.

The new March issue of XXL features the late great Christopher Wallace better known as the Notorious B.I.G.. It’s still crazy to think it’s been 15 years since he’s been gone. XXL has done a great job with their tribute issues, they have over 40 never before seen pics, interiews with his kids and more. Should be a good one, it’s out February 7th.

Yesterday the NFL had their AFC and NFC Championship games to see which to teams will meet in Indianapolis for Super Bowl XLVI. Well after two very exciting games between the New England Patriots Vs. The Baltimore Ravens and the San Francisco 49ers Vs. the New York Giants. The Giants and Patriots came out on top for a re-match of Super Bowl XLII that the Giants won back in ’08.

QUESTION:
Who is your pick to win Super Bowl XLVI?

My answer.

Since neither of these teams are my team, I don’t really have one I’m gunning for. But if I was gonna place a bet I’m gonna go with the Pats. They’ve won 3 out of the last 4 Super Bowls they appeared in and the one they lost was to the Giants. So you know they’re out for blood. They aren’t gonna let them beat them twice at the Super Bowl. Then again the giants are a crazy team that should not be counted out. Either way this game should be an exciting one to watch on February 5th.

Here are this weeks new trailers. Well Red Tails isn’t new but it’s out this week and it’s my movie choice for this week. Now the best trailer this week is for Project X, I saw the 1st trailer months ago and thought it was ok, but the 2nd trailer just dropped and I was laughing my ass off. I will be seeing this movie come March. One movie I’m on the fence about is the new Resident Evil movie, I enjoy them for some reason, I still have to see 4 I can’t believe they made it to 5. The last trailer is for Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom. It came out awhile back but I forgot to add it.

Before we get into my thoughts on Red Tails I want to get one little fact clear, George Lucas did not direct the movie. Anthony Hemingway directed it, Lucas only produced it. So when you’re in line on your way to the theater this weekend and you’re trying to impress your date or friends make sure you tell ‘em that. Now let’s get to business, I’ve always been interested in the Tuskegee Airmen, I saw a movie about them in the 90s and always loved the story about how they over came all of their adversities to be come the legends they are today.

This film isn’t about how the Tuskegee experiment started, when the film begins the Tuskegee Airmen America’s all black fighter squadron is already in Italy during World War 2. They have their own base far from where the white air base is and sub par planes. The group doesn’t let that get them down, they are happy to represent their country and be able to fly, but they know they can do more and they want to show it. Despite their amazing skills, the powers that be believe that black pilots aren’t good enough to fly. Of course they have no choice but to let them get real missions and when they do they excel and complete their missions. Don’t worry I’m not spoiling anything you can wikipedia that.

The movie reminded me of a 1940s version of Top Gun. It’s an adventure movie about friendship and brotherhood. I found myself rooting for the characters. I gotta give it up to the great cast that included Terrence Howard and Cuba Gooding Jr as the commanding officers. The pilots played by Nate Parker, David Oyelowo, were the stand outs you believed in their friendship it reminded me of the Goose and Maverick relationship from Top Gun. Even Ne-Yo and Method Man did a great job.

Another thing I loved was the aerial fight scenes, if there was one thing with having George Lucas involved was that you get his Industrial Lights & Magic special effects company to handle the special effects. There are many dog fights and they were well done.

Overall I enjoyed Red Tails, it’s a well done story showing the heroics of the legendary Tuskegee Airmen. It doesn’t get preachy or anything like that. It’s just a great adventure movie.
