PLAY IT LOUD: DJ MENSA – BABYGIRL: AN AALIYAH RETROSPECTIVE

Today is the 10th Anniversary of the passing of the late great Aaliyah. Her music is timeless and even though it’s been 10 years it doesn’t feel like she ever left us. My good friend DJ Mensa proves it with this amazing retrospective mix dedicated to her. I’m playing it for the third time today and Mensa put together a flawless mix. If you’re unfamiliar with Aaliyah you will get everything you need to know about her musically and if you’re like me and grew up with Aaliyah it will be a trip down memory lane.

PLAY IT LOUD: ROCHESTER – BORN TO BE

Last month one of my favorite Canadian MCs Rochester released his new mixtape “Born To Be” It takes the concept from the Much Music show of the same name, best part it’s narrated by Gee Wunder. The mixtape gives you a look into the life of Rochester from growing up in Woodbridge, family struggles and he even explains what happened to the Foundation. On the music side it features Production from Burd & Keys, Tone Mason and more. It features guest appearances from Shawn Desmond, Jahvon, Kolor Brown and more.

PLAY IT LOUD: DJ MENSA – HIBERNATION

Here’s a new mix from my friend DJ Mensa “Hibernation”. Just in time for Toronto’s so-called “Snowstorm”.

“Following up where Cabin Fever left off, Hibernation is an exploration in lo-fi: soft keys, warm bass, and all kinds of intimacy. Look out for some amazing remixes of R’n’B standards, left field covers of others and, of course, The-Dream. Far from a slow jam tape, but definitely a gateway to foreplay, or something.”
